Version 2.4 - Release Notes
The 2.4 release performs some refactoring to the translation platform. Enhancements were also made allowing administrators to customize text and emails right from the Admin Panel without risk of loss during updates.
As a result of this release, previous language files will still work but will be missing all meta entries. It is recommended to download newer versions of your language files from the Add-Ons section.
Translated Plugins & Themes
Both themes and plugins now have the ability to be language aware and contain different translation files for text they may contain.
Language File Updates
Though there were no changes to the actual entries in the language files, the way they're managed has been refactored. Language file name are now expected to be normalized using the ISO-639 language code and the ISO-3166 country code. So Spanish specific to Colombia would for example be in a file named es_CO. This normalization will help keep language names consistent now that plugins and themes can now also be translated.
All text entries originating from language files are now customizable from the Admin Panel without the need to modify the language files. Language entries from themes and plugins will also be editable from this interface. This allows users to modify text and not loose their changes during updates.
All emails sent to users are now customizable from the Admin Panel without the need to modify the email language files. This allows users to modify email messages and not loose their changes during updates.
