Some Buttons Not Working in Different Browsers

edited December 2011 in Bugs and Errors
Hi,

just checking out a few things in the latest Opera and Safari, and I couldn't Browse for an Avatar upload. OK in IE9 and latest Chrome. Also had trouble with browse during video upload in the same browsers. Appears to be a browser-related compatibility issue. Might be just my browser settings, but you might want to check.

Comments

  • This is odd. We tested the browse/ upload feature for videos and avatars in IE7,8,& 9, Opera, Safari (Win. & Mac), Chrome (Win. & Mac), and Firefox 8 (Win. & Mac) and everything was fine.

What behavior specifically are you experiencing so that we can investigate?

Basically the browse directory does not pop up in the above mentioned browsers after trying to select the browse button. I am using Windows 7.

At the moment, I am using multiple browsers and accounts at the same time, which may have something to do with it?

It might be one-off sessional thing? When I log-off, I will clear the browser caches and try again tomorrow. I will check again, and if it occurs again, I will try to isolate the issue to a browser. I will let you know if it occurs again.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

  • Hi Damian,

Just testing with Firefox 8(latest update). At "Upload Step 2 - Upload Video" I can't activate the Browse button. You might want to test at your end. This was only a single login test.

I know on couple the forums I visit, people are starting to report a few issues since updating to Firefox8.
  • What version of Flash are you running on the problematic browser?

Visit this page and there should be a box towards the right "Version Information", telling you the exact full version:

  • Hi Damian,

trying to isolate what's happening. All browsers are latest, with automatic updates. All running latest adobe flash (v 11,0,1,152).
  • I upgraded JWPlayer and swf.object, is it related to that?
  • I don't think that's the latest version. I'm running v. 11,1,102,55 on several of my browsers.

Let's try a couple of things, make sure "allow popups" is turned on, just in case.

    1) Make sure you're running the latest version of Flash, just to rule out a Flash problem.

    2) Visit Admin Panel -> Plugins -> Add New Plugin. Click on browse. See if the file browser window pops up. Make sure you give it a second, might be slow.

    3) Visit the page below and see if the file browser window pops up after clicking on 'Browse'. Again make sure to give it a second.

    4) Visit the page below and see if the file browser window pops up after clicking on 'Browse'.

    http://cumulusclips.org/resources/upload.html

    5) Disable all styles and try to browse for an avatar or video on your site. To disable styles in Firefox click View -> Styles -> No Styles (Might have to enable the menu bar via Firefox -> Options -> Menu Bar to see the View button).

Let me know if any of these work out for you.

Also to make sure you're running Windows 7 correct and using FF, Saf., Chrome, IE, and Opera, and on all browsers after clicking on 'Browse' nothing happens. No popup, warning or anything.
  • Also, to answer your question. No, updating JWPlayer should not affect Uploadify (the plugin we use to perform uploads of avatars and video.

However SWFObject should be untouched, since its used by Uploadify. If you updated this file I would revert it back to it's original state and make sure that wasn't the cause.

    Hi Damian,

Visited the suggested sites, and checked that the browsers were working correctly. I had a feeling that the SWFObject might be involved, as I had updated it. Before you posted I reverted back to the original SWFObject, and just starting to test. Everything looks OK now.

I didn't appreciate that Uploadify may have been affected, but I guessed as much after I reverted to the original SWFObject.

Thank you for you patience Damian. Sorry, I am such a slow learner!
  • No worries, glad you were able to get it to work.
