Try CumulusClips Cloud Hosting

Installation

Installing CumulusClips is a fairly straightforward process. Before you can begin with the install of your video sharing script you must ensure that your hosting provider meets the system requirements for running CumulusClips video sharing cms. Once you confirm that your hosting provider meets the requirements, the installation can be completed in these five steps:

  1. Download & extract the package
  2. Upload the files
  3. Set the required file permissions
  4. Create database and user
  5. Run installation wizard

Download & Extract

Download

To begin, you must first obtain your free copy of CumulusClips. Visit http://cumulusclips.org/download/ and download the package to your computer.

Extract the Package

Next extract the archive. On Windows, right click and select 'Extract All...' from the context menu.

Upload Files

Then you must upload the files to your hosting account using an FTP client such as FileZilla or CyberDuck.

File Permissions

Once all the files are uploaded to your hosting account, there are file permission changes that must be performed on several directories. These directories are:

  • /cc-core/logs
  • /cc-content/uploads/flv
  • /cc-content/uploads/mobile
  • /cc-content/uploads/temp
  • /cc-content/uploads/thumbs
  • /cc-content/uploads/avatars

Make sure these directories are writable by PHP and the web server. If you're unsure which permissions to set, use 0777 (Read, Write, & Execute "-rwxrwxrwx"). If you're using an FTP client like the ones mentioned above, this is done in a screen similar to this:

Create Database and User

CumulusClips requires a database and database user to function. If you already have both, just make sure your database tables have unique prefixes for in their names. This will avoid overwriting existing data. If you don't already have a database and user, create them now.

Using MySQL Client

Here is how to create a new database and user via the MySQL command line client.

$ mysql -u adminusername -p
Enter password:
Welcome to the MySQL monitor.  Commands end with ; or \g.
Your MySQL connection id is 5340 to server version: 3.23.54

Type 'help;' or '\h' for help. Type '\c' to clear the buffer.

mysql> CREATE DATABASE databasename;
Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)

mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON databasename.* TO "cumulusclipsusername"@"hostname"
-> IDENTIFIED BY "password";
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)

mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.01 sec)

mysql> EXIT
Bye
$

Remember the database name, username, and password you just created. You will need these for the database section of the installer.

Using cPanel

Here is how to create a new database and user using cPanel. Login to cPanel and click on the 'MySQL Database Wizard' button on your home screen.

Enter the name for your new CumulusClips database.

Provide the username and password for your new database user.

Give your newly created user all privileges and permissions on your CumulusClips database.

That's it, your database and user are now ready to be used by the platform.

Installation Wizard

At this point everything is ready and you can now run the installation wizard to actually install CumulusClips. Navigate to the installation wizard (/install), using your web browser.

  • If you placed the CumulusClips files in the root directory, you should visit: http://your-domain.com/install/
  • If you placed the CumulusClips files in a subdirectory, let's say 'videos' for example, you should visit: http://your-domain.com/videos/install/

CumulusClips will check to see if the files are writable by the web server. If not, you will be asked for FTP information. This is to perform updates and other filesystem based changes.

Enter the database credentials to be used by CumulusClips. If you created a new database and database user earlier, enter that information here.

All done!
